Rollin' through the isles of CVS Pharmacy, shopping for random items, I find myself in the beauty section, checking out new colors of nail polish. Sally Hanson has always been my favorite brand, so I’m scanning the shelves for anything new Sally may have created. I have tried a lot of fun and crazy nail polish products over the years, but when I saw the Sally Hanson Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips (made with real nail polish) I had to grab a box. I wasn’t sure , at first, how these were going to hold up, but soon found out how much I was going to love them. The first set I tried lasted almost ten days and were still in good shape when I was ready to switch to a new design. I ended up sporting the “Skinny Jeans” and “Ay Ay Captain” (a blue nautical stripe) all summer long. They lasted through all I put them through, including swimming and cooking out all summer. These little nail polish miracles are so worth ten bucks a box!
After experiencing the nail strips, I began to think if there were other “stickers” used to make beautifying yourself easier. Sure enough, I run across ColorOn Professional’s EyeEnvy Collection of eye shadow strips. They come 20 pairs to a kit for $20 with a variety of designs like leopard and zebra. Granted, these may be great for anyone doing their own makeup at home that wants an adventurous look, but for a professional makeup artist, this could be considered cheating, lol. There are makeup techniques to achieve these looks, but they would certainly take longer to apply. I say, “If they work for you, go for it!” Who doesn’t want a little animal print in their life!
Further research uncovered, yet another, “sticker” in the industry. Christian Dior has released a new way to apply and wear eye liner called Velvet Eyes. Available at Sephora for around $55, these eyeliner appliqués come in four, perfectly winged, 60s inspired designs. Now, I know I said it was cheating to use the previously discussed appliqué in this blog, but I really want to try these out, even though I could create these looks with liquid or gel liner, a little lash glue, and some sequins or gems. Maybe it has something to do with brand name on the packaging. I mean, who wouldn’t admit to wearing Christian Dior on their eyes, especially when they come at that price, lol!
Bottom line: If it works for you, go for it! Makeup is meant to be fun, but if these “stickers” came in scratch and sniff, I might have a totally different opinion. Try something new to spice up your look and explore new and interesting products. As always, life’s too short not to shine!
